Adult Spelling Bee
The first Adult Spelling Bee was held in 1996. Patterned after similar "Bees" held in other counties to benefit education, this event encourages the business community and educators to join together in fun to raise money to support school programs. Teams of four spellers register for the event. At the bee, they work together to correctly spell the words. When a word is missed, they may stay in the competition by purchasing the word. Teams are composed of school faculty, parents, business employees, and community leaders. Many businesses provide financial support to sponsor school teams. Businesses receive advertising from company signs on each team's table, newspaper coverage, and banners at the event. The Bee is held in a high school gym each November.
