Funding
The Wilson Education Partnership generates operating funds annually from three sources: the in harmony concert, the Adult Spelling Bee, and the Annual Fund Campaign.
The in harmony choral concert began in 1990 as the organization's first fund-raiser. The concert combines the musical talents of the choral music departments from the three high schools, singing "in harmony". Since its inception, the event has served multiple purposes: to raise funds for WEP, to provide a venue where the high schools combine in unity rather than in competition, and to showcase the quality music program in Wilson County Schools. The Partnership receives the proceeds from the ticket sales. The March event continues to be a sell-out show and is much anticipated by the entire community.
The first Adult Spelling Bee was held in 1996. This event encourages the business community and educators to join together in fun to raise money to support school programs. Teams of four spellers register for the event. At the bee, they work together to correctly spell the words. When a word is missed, they may stay in the competition by purchasing the word. Teams are composed of school faculty, parents, business employees, and community leaders. Many businesses provide financial support to sponsor school teams. The Bee is held in a high school gym each November.
The majority of WEP's operating funds are generated from the Annual Fund Campaign. The campaign is an annual solicitation appeal to businesses, industries and civic clubs. Gifts are accepted as investments in the future of Wilson County's children, providing programs that benefit students and teachers.
Public education impacts each and every one of us, and it is only through the generous support of our business community that the Wilson Education Partnership can fulfill its important mission. Donate now to support the 2011-2012 campaign. For more information about making a contribution, call 252-399-7726.
Contributions to Wilson Education Partnership are deemed charitable under section 501(a) of the internal revenue code as an organization described in Section 501(c)(3). U.S. Federal Tax ID 581762623.
