About in harmony - Every year for two decades, WEP has hosted in harmony, a concert featuring the combined high school choruses from Beddingfield, Fike and Hunt. in harmony began in 1990 as the first fund-raiser for the Wilson County Education Foundation, predecessor of WEP. From its inception, the high school chorus teachers have assumed responsibility for preparing their students, by selecting songs that the community will recognize and enjoy and teaching the vocal parts. To enhance the learning experience for students and provide additional instruction that supports the choral music curriculum, a guest choreographer has always come to Wilson County Schools to add the dance portion of in harmony.
The format for the show has changed little in 20 years. Musical selections always include Top 40 tunes, songs about music, and the a cappella rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner. Each high school, as well as the combined ensembles, has always been featured with a spotlight number. in harmony #10 added a new feature – songs presented by the combined men and the combined women. In the first few years, students played piano and drums to accompany the singers. Later the number of student instrumentalists increased to include keyboards, guitars, bass guitars, banjo and trumpet, providing a full back-up band.

In 1993, a special presentation by the Middle School Honors Chorus was added to give additional students the stage performance experience. For several years, individual middle school choral groups served as the opening act for in harmony. Since 1999, an honors chorus representing all middle schools has been featured. To celebrate our 20th anniversary, the 2009 show also featured an Alumni Choir.
After several years of standing-room only attendance, a second show was added in 2002 to give more people in the community an opportunity to enjoy these talented students. An evening and matinee performance now continue to be presented.
